I'M NEW TO CUB SCOUTS. WHERE DO I START?
Anza Pack 996 serves boys and girls from K-5th grades. Before registering with our Pack, please feel free to attend a Pack meeting and couple activities to make sure scouting is right for you and your child.
Please look at our Calendar or send an email to our Cubmaster to find out where and when our next meeting will be. We're happy to hear from you!
WHAT IS A DEN? WHAT IS A PACK?
Dens - Children are organized into specific groups called Dens and meet 2-3 times per month to do Cub Scouts’ age-appropriate adventure activities with others in their Den. Dens are organized by grade level and gender. Exceptions may be made depending on Den size.
Pack - All of the Dens (K-5th grade) make up the larger Pack. The Pack, including families, also participates in other special events throughout the year.
Council - Anza Pack 996 is part of the Greater LA Area Council (GLAAC). Several special events are organized by GLAAC each year.
National - Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is the official nationwide organization chartered by Congress to serve our nation’s youth by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
WHAT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES DO CUB SCOUTS DO?
We focus on interactive activities designed to be fun for children while teaching them about perseverance and developing their problem-solving abilities. In Cub Scouts, there are opportunities to spend time as a family and to do things that help build upon the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
WHICH DEN WILL MY CHILD BE A PART OF?
Cub Scouts is a grade-specific program that young people progress through as they grow older.
Read more about the various dens and ranks here.
ARE PARENTS INVOLVED?
Yes! Cub Scouting operates through volunteer leadership, so your role as a parent is the secret to a successful Cub Scouting program. Parents help coordinate the activities and help run the den meetings.
HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED?
Dens meet 2-3 times per month, usually for 1-2 hours each meeting.
The Pack meets once a month during the Torrance Unified School District school year. The Pack meetings always revolve around activities for the Scouts and usually last 2-3 hours.
Optional special events are held throughout the year, including summer. These include service projects, camping trips, and the Pinewood Derby®.
